We invite you to call us at (714) 871-0300 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Amina Chaudhry or Dr. Donald Tormey and learn more about teeth for life in Fullerton, California.

The key to maintaining excellent oral health is preventive care, especially good oral hygiene at home and regular dental checkups. During your regular dental visits, our dentists and team will review your at-home routine and oral health with you, and we may make recommendations on ways that you can improve your hygiene at home. We have provided some information about preventive care for you on this page and encourage you to contact us if you have any questions. Our team will be happy to provide you with more information and help you make an appointment at our office.

Dental Cleanings & Regular Checkups

Regular dental checkups are a crucial part of maintaining your oral health, and we recommend that you visit our dentists for a cleaning and exam every six months. During these appointments, we will:

  • Check for tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems
  • Clean, floss and polish your teeth
  • Take any X-rays that may be needed

Oral Hygiene

While visiting our office for professional care is important, nothing can replace a good hygiene routine at home. We recommend that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, including before you go to bed. Choose a toothbrush with soft bristles and a small head, and use a fluoridated toothpaste. We recommended choosing a toothbrush and toothpaste that is ADA® approved. You should also floss daily. Flossing reaches the areas between the teeth where your toothbrush cannot clean to remove plaque, food debris and bacteria from your teeth.

Our dentists and team will be happy to recommend dental products for your use at home. We may also provide tips on the best ways to brush and floss or recommend other oral hygiene aids as needed.

Tooth Eruption & Primary Teeth

When babies are born, they already have 20 primary teeth. These teeth typically begin erupting around 6 months of age, and by age 21, all 32 permanent teeth have erupted. Primary teeth play many important roles in a child’s oral health and development, including:

  • Facilitating speech production and development
  • Aiding in jaw development
  • Contributing to good chewing habits and overall nutrition
  • Helping with the spacing and alignment of the permanent teeth
  • Generating self-confidence that comes from having a healthy smile

This makes it incredibly important to help your child take care of their baby teeth. We recommend that you bring your child to the dentist when their first tooth erupts, or no later than 6 months of age. This will not only help your child become comfortable in the dental office but also allow our dentists to monitor their oral growth and development and ensure they receive the care they need to keep their smiles healthy. We will also be able to provide you with information about your child’s tooth eruption and the best ways to care for their teeth at home. We are committed to helping your child learn the good oral habits that lead to a lifetime of smiles.
